Collaboration to Co-Inspire with Miro - GEG APAC Online Event 'Staying Connected 2021 '

Collaboration to Co-Inspire with Miro

I remember the first time I came across Miro whilst navigating through various apps. Having downloaded I self trained myself on how to use it. I have managed to create boards and successfully collaborate through teams I am working with.

Miro  is a great online virtual whiteboard, whether you are looking for brainstorming new ideas or just creating collaborating projects, engaging audience through a workshop or just having a meeting, creating to do lists to having all documents including PDFs, videos, links, power-points et al all in one place.

It is a brilliant tool in a sense that it enables both Tech savvy and not so to contribute effectively during collaborations and engagement leading to inspirational output.

QUICK TIP :

Use a chrome browser as Miro works best with it compared to any other.

Let's get started on Miro

1. You will have to make an account on Miro. If you have an account go to Dashboard.

2. Before you start creating boards, have a clear plan and an objective in mind..

3. CREATE A BOARD

a. You can choose from a Blank canvas or innumerable Templates available

b. You have a category of Templates - Brainstorming, Research, Meetings, agile Workflows and so on.

c. Miroverse - An amazing community of collaborators who have already shared their boards for use. You could use them directly or modify to suit your needs.

QUICK TIP :

Miro boards have unlimited space and there's no dearth of lot of ideas under an umbrella.

d. Give your Board a name.

e. To invite collaborators or share with a Team, invite them with a shared link.

f. To see collection of all your boards, click on miro icon on left corner and it will show all your boards.

REMEMBER:

Free account allows up to only 3 boards to be active and other boards go into view only. But quite unlikely you would be working on more than three boards at a given time.

4.
4. NAVIGATE AROUND A BOARD

This is one of the most challenging task that people find while working through the boards.

One of the easiest way is to look through support videos on the Miro community itself.
Here is the link - Navigation mode

There are 3 modes of Navigation. - Mouse, Trackpad and Touchscreen. Miro will itself adjust depending on what mode you are on.

If you click on right top corner settings and scroll down the drop menu, you will find Navigation icon. This will further ask for your preferred mode of navigation.

Look at three different areas on the board.

1. Left Side Menu - This entails basic functions, tools, formatting and Frames.

2. Left Bottom Menu - This entails presentation, sharing and comments.

QUICK TIP :

If you are using a paid version, you will be able to use Video chat, Voting and Timer functions from this section.

3. Right Bottom Menu - this entails Map, Fit to screen and Zooming In and Out Options.

5. CREATING FRAMES

From a lot of options - custom, tablet, browser to choose from

16:9 seems to be a reliable option especially if you are looking at exporting as PDF and print and distribute.

Create from scratch or from Templates . It is flexible in the sense as you could zoom in or zoom out while making changes. Once done you could lock it in place.

6. CREATING TEXT, STICKIES, USING PEN, CARDS, COMMENTS, REACTIONS

With the reactions in the moment you can show how you are feeling, especially useful if you are facilitating virtual lesson or workshop.

You may select from six emojis to show how are you feeling and participants can raise hands and facilitators will get notified.

One of the cool features with Stickies Capture you can convert hand made stickies into fully editable stickies on the board.

QUICK TIP :

Write notes using a dark felt pen contrasting with the sticky note background for better results.

7. OTHER USEFUL THINGS - PDFS, GOOGLE CAPTURE, UPLOAD VIA URL, VIDEOS

You may ask what all you could add to the Board. The answer is almost anything - Documents, spreadsheets, images, webpages, icons and even videos.

QUICK TIP :

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V for Windows

Cmd+C and Cmd+V for Mac

Simply drag from your device to the board

For images - you may crop, rotate, resize, replace , move

Activity List continually shows changes made to the board and person and time.

Adding the files from URL, choose Upload via URL.

You can fast forward a video added to Miro as well add comments. You may choose to have it to your Miro Library, right click, add to Saved Files. This works for all other files too.

8. Support and Feedback

Change Color Names of participants - In one color. If they change the color, it is easily identifiable on the Board. You can reach out

Raise Hand Tool is Handy is recognizing who needs help.

Dot Voting

Ideas and Dots for each participant - They can support the idea they like.
