Year 2020 - Did you make the most ?
If only one word could sum up the year of 2020, for me it would be Gratitude.
For lot of things in life, we have never chanced upon with so much time, the right attitude and the careful observation. I always wondered in the year 2020, whether in reality did most of the rainbows appeared in the sky or did I had enough time on hand to gaze and admire the natural phenomenon and beauty they unravel. I spotted almost a dozen of unique birds and animals in their natural settings. Many scientific phenomenon like Solar and Lunar eclipse, Blue moon, Christmas star alignment were witnessed in this year. This year has produced unprecedented news events. The discovery of world's longest animal ever, siphonophore was recorded and announced this year.
Not just looking outward, but the year 2020 was also year of looking inward. With Covid suddenly taking over all and beyond news and media, lockdowns and circuit breakers restraining all work and learning from home, family was much closer than ever before.
I can say those were blessed who had Work and who had Home. Just read this quote somewhere and couldn't have agreed more. It was daunting to spare a room or personal space for every working individual in home. But it was least of a worry especially looking around several people who had lost jobs or loved ones due to Covid. It was indeed a fortunate occurence to see everyone around for meals or even a little break. With all beings masked up outside, the Home felt a safe haven with attire perfect for breathing naturally and happily. Lungs were the happiest when around the loved ones stimulating deep breathing organically. There were innumerable moments of connection and living.
Yet amid all this we forgot to give back. We forgot to show gratitude for the times that came to us. Partly because the debut of year was flawed with accusation, discomfort and curb of freedom. The word 'Covid', stood out stark and offending, feeding resentment and incongruency.
On a personal level, this year offered a lot of opportunities. As a presenter for an online event sharing knowledge on a Asia Pacific Google Education Groups to be a moderator for a Youth leaders' Dialogue on Climate Action, from honing my crochet skills to being a facilitator guiding Library volunteers to making their first picture book for young audience, offers on plate were enough and amazing.
All I could gather from the year 2020 was more than enough time, more work and more of family. I am blessed that even in such obnoxious times I had time, work, family and home.
